Privacy Policy

This policy explains how Independent Mortgage Broker collects, uses, stores and shares your personal information, and how you can access or correct it. It is written to comply with the Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles.

1. Who we are

Independent Mortgage Broker is a trading name of LNB Finance Pty Ltd (ABN 83 668 176 083), Credit Representative 551447, Australian Credit Licence 384324. In this policy, "we", "us" and "our" refer to LNB Finance Pty Ltd.

2. What information we collect

We collect personal information that's necessary to help you identify and apply for a suitable credit product. That typically includes:

  • Identification details — name, date of birth, address, driver's licence and/or passport.
  • Contact details — phone number, email address, residential and postal address.
  • Financial information — income, employment details, expenses, assets and liabilities, bank statements, tax returns, BAS statements and notices of assessment.
  • Information about the property you're buying or refinancing, and the loan you're seeking.
  • Information you provide through our enquiry form, by phone, by email or in person.

We may also collect information from third parties with your consent — for example, your accountant, your employer, or a credit reporting body.

3. How we use your information

We use your personal information to:

  • Understand your objectives and financial situation so we can recommend a credit product that is not unsuitable for you.
  • Compare products from our panel of lenders and provide you with options.
  • Prepare and submit a credit application on your behalf, including providing your information to the lender you choose.
  • Communicate with you about your application and the loan.
  • Meet our legal and regulatory obligations, including under the National Consumer Credit Protection Act 2009 and anti-money-laundering laws.

We will not use your personal information for a purpose unrelated to these, and we will not use it for direct marketing without your consent.

4. Who we share it with

To do our job, we share your information with:

  • Lenders on our panel, when you choose to apply for a loan with them.
  • Credit reporting bodies (such as Equifax, illion and Experian), where we or a lender need to assess your credit history. This may include a credit check that's recorded on your credit file.
  • Service providers who help us run our business — for example, software platforms we use to manage loan applications and store documents securely. These providers only handle your information to provide us with their service, and are bound by confidentiality.
  • Professional advisers such as your accountant, where you ask us to work with them.

We will not sell your personal information. We will only share it where it's necessary for the purposes set out above, where you consent, or where we're legally required to.

5. How we store and protect it

We store personal information in secure, access-controlled systems. We take reasonable steps to protect it from misuse, interference, loss, and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. We keep it only for as long as it's needed for the purposes it was collected for, or as required by law, and then we destroy or de-identify it.

6. Accessing and correcting your information

You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, and to correct it if it's inaccurate, out of date or incomplete. To do so, contact us using the details below. We'll respond within a reasonable time and may need to verify your identity before giving you access.

7. Credit reporting

Where we or a lender access your credit report, that access may be recorded on your credit file. If you have a concern about the handling of your credit information, you can contact us, or you can contact the credit reporting body directly. The Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) also handles privacy complaints.
